Help make the International Year
of Biodiversity a transformative year for Australia’s
biodiversity.
You can help by --
Celebrating the wonder and beauty
of biodiversity in your community
Asking groups you are part of to
sign onto the Boobook Declaration and commit to working
for its implementation in 2010.
Asking your federal parliamentary
representatives in the House of Representatives and
the Senate to endorse the Boobook Declaration and commit
to supporting its implementation in 2010.
Signing the Boobook Declaration
If your group is willing to sign on
to the Boobook Declaration – email info@boobook.org.au and
include
The name of your group
The logo
A link to your web page, if any.
The name and contact details (including
phone number and email address) of an office-bearer
or person able to represent the group.

Visit your Parliamentarian
As a voter, your concerns matter. You
do not need to be an expert. Your power is your concern
and your passion. Holding a meeting with your federal
parliamentary representative(s) is probably the most
effective way of seeking their active support. Alternatively
write a letter – it is more meaningful than an email),
especially if you can illustrate the issues from your
own experience as someone interested in biodiversity,
whether a researcher, farmer or land manager, an artist,
photographer, diver or bushwalker, or simply a person
who cares about nature and its future.

Get the
message out there
Local media is an easy and effective way to get messages
about biodiversity out to the wider community, and
to politicians. Imagine the impact of regular stories
about biodiversity in dozens of local papers and on
local radio & TV right across Australia.

in the media click here.
Host a ‘Polly’ forum
A good way to compare (and ultimately improve) different
parties’ biodiversity policies is to invite your local
candidates for the 2010 elections to speak at an event
and outline their commitment to conserving biodiversity.

Join a group
If you aren’t already a member of a local biodiversity
interest group, join one! Take a look at our signatures
page. There is bound to be a group with a focus on
species or conservation issues that interests you.
If there isn’t anything in your area, it might be time
to start something.
To add your group to our list of signatures, or request
contact details for a signature group email info@boobook.org.au
